Knicks, Mike Woodson coming closer on long-term deal, report says

記者指出尼克與武僧在長期合作的deal幾乎要達成共識了。



Mike Woodson logged only one season with the Knicks as a player, but his
tenure as coach might be longer. Newsday's Al Iannazzone is reporting that,
like general manager Glen Grunwald, who had his interim tag removed last
month, Woodson is on the verge of signing a long-term deal with the Knicks.

雖然武僧在尼克只當過一季的球員(1980-1981)，但他的執教任期也許可以來得更長久。

"The Knicks officially are expected to remove the interim label from
Mike Woodson's title this week, according to multiple sources," Iannazzone
wrote. "The two sides are working on a long-term deal, the sources said,
and something could be done within the next couple of days."

據多方消息來源指出，尼克官方被預期會在這星期拿掉武僧的代理標籤。

Woodson led the Knicks to an 18-6 regular season record after being promoted
from assistant coach to interim coach upon Mike D'Antoni's mid-March
resignation. Under his guidance, New York outdueled the Milwaukee Bucks for
the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and even managed to jump
the Philadelphia 76ers to earn the seventh seed.

Co-captain Carmelo Anthony thrived under Woodson, earning Eastern Conference
Player of the Month honors in April by scoring 29.8 points per game while
primarily playing power forward in Amar'e Stoudemire's absence (bulging disc).
Both Anthony and Stoudemire have publically endorsed Woodson.

Woodson was brought on before the season in an effort to improve the
team's defense, which is something that he definitely accomplished
thanks to the additions of rookie Iman Shumpert and Defensive Player
of the Year Tyson Chandler. The Knicks ranked fifth in the league in
defensive efficiency (points allowed per 100 possessions) this season
after finishing 21st in 2010-2011. New York also held opponents to a
league-low 32.1 points per game in the paint after ranking 28th in that
category a season ago.

The Knicks ultimately fell to the second-seeded Miami Heat, 4-1, in the
first round of the playoffs. However Woodson did coach the team to its
first postseason win since 2001 amidst an unprecedented string of bad
luck that included significant knee injuries to point guards Jeremy Lin,
Iman Shumpert and Baron Davis as well as Stoudemire's self-inflicted
left-hand laceration that kept him out of the Game 3 loss.

Woodson, who was a college teammate of Grunwald and former Knicks president
and coach Isiah Thomas' at Indiana, had a 206-286 record in six seasons as
head coach of the Atlanta Hawks. The team improved every season under his
guidance, but he was not re-signed after Atlanta was swept by the Orlando
Magic in the second round of the 2009-2010 Eastern Conference Playoffs.

身為Grunwald和尼克前總裁及前教練Isiah Thomas大學時期的隊友，
武僧在老鷹隊做了六季的總教練，累積206-286的勝負場數。

Woodson previously served as an assistant under former Knicks coach
Larry Brown during the Detroit Pistons' title-winning 2003-2004 season.
The two shared agent Joe Glass (and son Keith) until recently, but Woodson
reportedly switched to Creative Artists Agency at the behest of Madison
Square Garden management because the company previously had an ugly legal
battle of Brown's contract with the Glass family (Steve Popper's report
from The Bergen Record, which is one of several).

在2003-2004活塞拿下總冠軍的那個球季，
武僧曾在前尼克教頭Larry Brown下擔任過助理教練。
這兩人的經紀人一直到最近都是Joe Glass和他的兒子Keith，

但據傳聞在MSG管理階層的指示下，武僧把經紀公司換到了Creative Artists Agency，
因為武僧的原經紀公司曾在Brown的合約上和MSG打了一場難看的官司。
